IELTS (International English Language Testing System): It is a test, which is required by most of the English speaking countries. In India IDP conducts the IELTS test.
There are two types of IELTS :
- Academic
- General
Academic IELTS
Academic IELTS is for study purpose, and scoring criteria is out of 9.0 bands. It has four modules Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The basic-requirement in IELTS from most colleges and universities is 6.0 in each module. It could vary according to the college or university requirement.
General IELTS
General IELTS is for PR (Permanent Residence) purpose or Work permit, and scoring criteria is the same as academic IELTS 9.0 bands. It has the same four modules Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The requirement in General IELTS varies from country to country.
Other information regarding the IELTS exam is available easily. So we directly jump on the part, which is more crucial.
Reading Module
Reading module is the most important and trickiest one, especially for the academic students. Academic reading and General reading are not the same. The academic reading module is lengthier than the General reading module. So, a precise plan is required to get a good score in a reading module.
First of all, understand the types of questions come in a reading module.
- True/False/Not Given
- Yes/No/Not Given
- Match Headings
- Fill in the blank
- MCQ
- Match Information
Here, True/False/Not Given and Yes/No/Not Given have the highest weightage in all. Generally, 10 to 15 questions could be there of these types. So, we can say that around 25% to 40% of the reading module is covered just with True/False/Not Given. Besides, match headings questions are also very crucial because most students struggle in Match Heading questions.
